Mrs. Chen lay quietly in the hospital bed.
The young doctor stood over her, clipboard in hand, tone condescending.
“Mrs. Chen, we’re a hospital, not a folk medicine clinic. Please leave treatment decisions to us.”
She simply smiled.
A senior doctor entered the room, face serious. He handed the young doctor an old sheet of paper.
“Where did you get this formula?”
The old woman’s voice was soft but clear.
“I wrote it.”
The young doctor froze. His eyes scanned the page. His expression shifted from disbelief to shock.
“That compound is the basis of the phase three trial your department is currently enrolled in. She is the lead researcher. Her name is on the grant.”
Silence filled the room. The young doctor looked at the elderly woman in the bed with completely new eyes.
All his arrogance crumbled in a single moment.
